grade

Grade is the overall score given for a pearl. Dominantly determined by lustre and surface quality.

AAA : No defect/spots at all

AA : Only slight little scatch/defect

A : High lustre with only minor imperfections over less than 10% of its surface

B : High or medium lustre with surface that have some visible imperfections, no more than 40%

C : Medium lustre. Surface defects on all the sides and very many spots. No clean skin at all

D : Have poor lustre with defects are more than 80% of its

E : Very poor lustre with skin defects on all the sides and very many spots. No clean skin at all

F : Very very bad quality, an ‘unsuccesful production’ and not for or using as a jewelry

 

LUSTRE

Lustre is the first and the most important criteria for a good pearl. Lustre is what gives a pearl its unique beauty and making an extra attention on the people’s eye

Excellent lustre : Bright and sharp reflection

Good lustre : Good reflections, but not sharp and slightly hazy around the edges

Mediate lustre : Reflections are weak, hazy, and blurred

Poor lustre : Reflections are dim and diffused
